Sometimes things happens that are out of our control and we can’t understand why. The Why? It’s a huge factor when we go through these moments. That’s the one question you ask yourself again and again.
Things changed for us drastically at the end of August. We had been traveling all year, we were planning more adventures to the destinations of our dreams. Life was just AMAZING! And then everything turned upside down. Ric was suffering from “Kidney Stones”. For some people is very simple, for others “Not At All” said the doctor. The days that follow were just miserable for our little family.
Ric was in and out of the hospital for about a month. His stones were the result of many years drinking caffeine soft drinks and not enough water. His urethra was narrow and the stones too big to pass. They got stock on their way out and were harming the kidneys. The pain was unbearable and he needed the strongest sedating medicines there are. We saw our life and dreams flash before us at the operating room. We missed major events at school, and in the middle of it all we had to evacuate our house due to Hurricane Irma. It was a scary moment.
This blog is becoming my personal diary and I want to be as transparent as possible “ I felt like crap”. Physically and emotionally we were not ourselves. My mom and Ric’s parents we handling the kids pretty well. Both of our families worked around the children’s schedules and activities. I in the other hand, was dealing with all medical decisions and being as supportive as possible. There was also our check ins with our employers and the kid’s teachers for assignments.
To make things even worst, we had to cancel our trip to India. Ric’s doctors did not recommend the long flights.
The same day we were supposed to leave to India, we went to work. The flight was later that night, but we were not sure if our final destination was the airport or the hospital. His fever went up higher and higher during the day, so one hour before check in, we decided, let’s head to the ER. He had an infection three times higher than normal and the very next day he ended up in the operating room again! It took a lot to get us off that plane, but thank god we did.
After 3 medical procedures, we finally are breathing a little better these days. Ric is being closely watched by his specialists and all 7 stones are out from his right kidney. At the moment, he still has 2 more stones on his left kidney but they are not bothering him so far. We hope they stay that way. Our nights in the hospital consisted of silly jokes we could only understand, made our bond a lot more stronger, long chats, social media and watching movies.
Some days we were more hopeful thinking “one more day here” then the doctor would change things for us and one day turned into many more days. The boys would go to the hospital some times or we would face time them at home.
In the end, what helped us get through was our dreams. We dreamed of better days. We dreamed of incredible adventures and planned the most amazing trips in our minds. The idea that there is a world out there waiting for us to see, gave us the strength to get through it all. Also we learned to trust God and leave everything in his hands.
Finally, two months later, we are on the road again. India became a reality and we visited the Taj Mahal one of the seven wonders of the world.
Thank you again for reading my silly thoughts I just wanted to update this blog with this story that changed our lives forever. We are invincible as long as God wants us to be.
Love always,
Saj
